The authors suggest that since social stratification covaries with subsistence type, it may account for the effect on prevalence of homosexuality. However, social stratification is only a marginally significant predictor (p = .087), while subsistence type, when dichotomized, is significant (p = 0.049). The author acknowledges the problem of multicollinearity, but also reports that when controlling for both social stratification and community size, subsistence type is marginally significant (p = 0.075), and neither control is.
