Hypothesis
House area and post-marital residence are correlated phylogenetically.
Note
The model with post-marital residence as the dependent variable fits the best. The combination of small house and patrilocal residence is both the ancestral state and evolutionarily the most stable state. The combination of large houses and patrilocal residence as well as small houses with matrilocal residence are evolutionarily unstable, resulting in a change of house size or a change of post-marital residence rule. It is rare for a matrilocal society with large houses to transition directly to patrilocality; decreases of house size are more common in matrilocal societies and these are generally followed by the transition to patrilocal residence.
