Hypothesis

Brides are expected to have a greater net gain in resources at the time of marriage than the brides' parents, and grooms are expected to have a greater net gain in resources than the grooms' parents (354).

Note

The test described here relates to the brides' net gain in resources. Another test was done concerning the grooms' net gain in resources. The second test also strongly supports the hypothesis.
