67% of societies in Africa impose a postpartum sex taboo of more than one year, while the taboo in 44% of societies in East Eurasia is less than one month. 40% or more of societies in the Circum-Mediterranean, Insular Pacific, and North and South America impose taboos of between one month and one year.
