Cross-Cultural Research Vol/Iss. 33(2) SAGE Publications Inc Published In Pages: 175–192
By Schrauf, Robert W.

Hypothesis

The maintenance of the mother tongue into the third generation is related to the residential pattern.

Note

The results show a significant positive measure of association between residence closeness and language retention. Using partial rank-order correlation, the author finds that residential closeness and continued religious practices independently predict the maintenance of the mother tongue.
