  1. The development of technology will be positively associatedwith increasing frequencies of external war, civil war, and riots (but feuding war will decrease as technology develops in society) (53)Leavitt, Gregory C. - The frequency of warfare: an evolutionary perspective, 1977 - 5 Variables

Thi study tests a hypothesis on the relationship between frequency of warfare and sociocultural development.

  2. OCM subjects identified with "conflict" can be grouped into four aspects of conflict: economic conflicts, sociocultural/interpersonal conflicts, legal/judicial conflicts, and political conflicts.Lundy, Brandon D. - The Effectiveness of Indigenous Conflict Management Strategies in Localized ..., 2022 - 1 Variables

This paper seeks to understand how the conflict resolution strategies of indigenous and non-indigenous groups differ in their efficacy. The authors suggest that indigenous methods of conflict resolution are more effective than non-indigenous methods by demonstrating that subjects from the Outline of Cultural Materials (OCM) associated with indigenous conflict management (ICM) will co-occur less frequently with OCM terms related to conflict than subjects related to non-ICM. They tested this by selecting OCM subjects that they felt best represented ICM, non-ICM, and instances of conflict and using chi-square tests to show how often these subjects co-occurred. They subsequently split up the "conflict" variable into four forms of conflict in order to show whether any of these forms might be more frequently found associated with ICM or non-ICM subjects. The results showed that conflict subjects were more likely to co-occur with non-ICM subjects, and that sociocultural/interpersonal conflicts were more likely to be associated with ICM subjects, whereas political conflicts were more likely to be associated with non-ICM subjects.

  5. Men's divorce freedom and defiant homicide predicted suicides attributable to interpersonal frustration while only men's divorce freedom predicted suicides with apparent extrapersonal precipitants (227-228, 222).Krauss, Herbert H. - Social contexts of suicide, 1971 - 8 Variables

This study investigates the thwarting disorientation theory of suicide, suggesting that the rate of suicide in a society can be predicted from thwarting disorientation traits such as men’s divorce freedom and defiant homicide.

  6. There will be a relationship between the traditional presence of a segmentary lineage system and the presence and intensity of conflictMoscona, Jacob - Social structure and conflict: Evidence from sub-Saharan Africa, 2017 - 8 Variables

Using a sample of 145 African societies, the authors seek to examine the relationship between segmentary lineage organization and conflict. Presented is evidence supporting the claim that segmentary lineage societies are more prone to conflict and to conflicts larger in scale and duration. The authors aim to contribute to a better understanding of the determinants of conflict, and additionally address the applicability of the present study beyond Africa.

  8. "External warfare should be correlated with an absence or only infrequent occurrence of feuding while internal warfare should be correlated with frequent feuding"Divale, William Tulio - The causes of matrilocal residence: a cross-ethnohistorical survey, 1974 - 2 Variables

Author proposes and presents evidence in support of the theory that most societies practice virilocal or patrilocal residence (this is the "normal" pattern" and that matrilocal residence is adopted when societies migrate to an already populated area.

  9. Social differentiation will be positively associated with violent crime (249).Leavitt, Gregory C. - General evolution and Durkheim's hypothesis of crime frequency: A cross-cult..., 1992 - 16 Variables

This paper is an investigation into the relationship between social differentiation as a proxy for societal 'development' and various categories of crime. A positive relationship is interpreted by the author as empirical cross-cultural support for Durkheim's theory that these two factors will increase together as parallel processes of 'sociocultural evolution'.
